Pharmacy Technician Information

Many people are getting training as a pharmacy technician as they may work their way up the career ladder, and even higher, in their quest to continue training, and keeping up with the changes and additions in Pharmacists and pharmacy technician training.  You may ask yourself, what are some of a Pharmacy Technician Duties:  The duties they do, include stocking shelves and supplies in a drugstore, pharmacy, in a hospital, drugstore, or even a hospital pharmacy.  Some pharmacy technician duties in an automated pharmacy like you might find in a drug warehouse that makes medications, they may fill and seal packages after a robotic arm has placed them in a vial, bottle, or other container.  The pharmacy Technician will label these packages, and place them on a shelf for the arm to retrieve later.  Pharmacy Technician Duties in a hospital pharmacy, or nursing home may include some listed earlier, like restocking shelves, and answering phone calls, as most pharmacy technicians do anywhere.  Another things that are a Pharmacy Technician Duties is to supply the filled medications for a customer, or patient after a doctor, as in the case of a hospital, or any drugstore has prescribed them for the person, and a licensed pharmacists has filled and checked the medications.

Most pharmacists will still counsel the customer on the proper use and other medication related information.  Most pharmacy technicians do take some training, or certification, but not all do, outside of the workplace.  Not all states require certification, or any testing for Pharmacy Technicians before the begin work.  These rules may, and can change as the tightening of the medications superhighway gets more strict.  I myself, when needing some Asthma tablets, a popular over the counter brand, I had to show my photo ID, they retained it for a quick once over, and I had to sign a document stating that I would not abuse the medication.

Further, a Pharmacy Technician Duties do incluse ringing up purchases of the customer along with the medications that they picked up, like most cashiers, or store employees anywhere.  The one key difference that anyone can see is they work closely with computers entering a patients data when they get a prescription filled, or refilled, and they also help the pharmacists with any other duties that he may assign them.
